Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures baking all types of bread. I hope you find my step by step videos helpful!

Whole-Wheat Beer Bread

Whole-Wheat Beer Bread

Our friends from Seattle came down to visit for the holiday weekend and it was an amazing three days of drinking and eating. Even though we went through more beers than I can remember, we had some leftover. This bread is so easy to make and you can use whatever beer you have in the fridge.

I know I say this often, but this really is one of the easiest recipes you can make. This bread doesn't require any yeast, rising, or kneading. You throw all these ingredients into one bowl, mix it together, and you have fresh whole wheat bread.

The reason you don't have to knead this bread is because the baking powder and yeast in the bear will leaven it. The beer also gives the bread a great flavor, almost like a sourdough.

RECIPE

  • 2 tablespoon melted butter
  • 2 3/4 whole-wheat flour (or whatever you prefer: you can also use all-purpose flour)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 can beer (10 oz)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 Degrees Fahrenheit. Grease your loaf pan with 1 tablespoon of the melted butter
  2. Combine the flour, baking powder, and almost all the sunflower seeds in one bowl. Keep a few sunflowers out for garnishing
  3. Pour in your beer and honey and mix until it just comes together. No kneading necessary!
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and pour the rest of the butter over the batter
  5. Sprinkle the reserved sunflower seeds onto your loaf and bake for about 45 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out dry
